How to Wrap a Large Box

Welcome to The Little ELF Gift Wrapping Handbook, where gift wrapping is made fun and easy!

Whether you always run out of paper or find large boxes too bulky, wrapping a big box can be very challenging and awkward. If you can’t figure out how to wrap that large gift you are gifting this holiday season, try these few creative folding techniques to wrap it! Follow along to learn how to gift wrap a really big box.

Step 1: Grab your supplies

Step 2: Measure the wrapping paper

Roll out the wrapping paper to measure the paper. Place the gift in the middle of the paper and bring each side up to the top of the gift. Make sure there is enough paper to overlap on the top of the box.

Pro tip: Make sure to have a full roll of paper as this gift wrap will use a lot of paper.

Step 3: Cut the paper

Cut your paper at the measured mark. Use the Little ELF Gift Wrap Cutter to get an exact cut. Once the cutter is on the roll, press it upwards for an easy, straight, perfect cut every time.

Step 4: Place the gift on the paper

Place the gift on the paper and make sure it is aligned in the center of the paper.

Step 5: Fold the first side of the paper

Starting with one side, bring the wrapping paper up and over the top of the box. Secure it with a piece of tape in the center of the top of the box.

Step 6: Fold over the paper on the other side

Fold the other side of the wrapping paper over the top of the box and secure it there with a piece of tape. Make sure that the paper overlaps in the middle so the gift is completely covered in wrapping paper.

Step 7: Wrap the first end

Even though it will look a little different than a typical wrap, finish the ends like normal. Start by pressing the right long sides in to lay flat on the side of the box. For this specific gift wrap, tape each piece of paper as you go. Secure these two folds of wrapping paper with a piece of tape. Use the Little ELF Gift Wrap Tape for a perfect, simple, and crisp finish on all holiday gifts. Crease the edges well.

Pro Tip: As you continue wrapping, you may realize that the ends will not cover the entire gift.. Don’t worry, we will solve that problem in the next few steps.

Step 8: Fold the other side

Press the flap on the left side of the box to lay it flat on the side of the box. Use a few pieces of tape to secure this piece of paper to the box.

Step 9: Fold the top flap down

Press the flap at the top of the box down towards the box. Tape this piece of paper to the box.

Step 10: Fold the bottom flap up

Pull the final flap at the bottom of the box up so that it lays flat against the side of the box. Tape this piece of paper to the box as well.

Step 11: Repeat on the other side

Repeat the same folding technique on the other end of the box. First, start by folding the sides in towards the side of the box. Second, press the flap at the top of the box down towards the box. Third, pull the final flap at the bottom of the box up so that it lays flat against the side of the box. Remember to tape these wrapping paper folds to the side of the box as you go.

Step 12: Measure more wrapping paper

Now, some creative folding techniques come into play to help save the gift wrapping day! Grab some more wrapping paper and roll out the paper. Measure enough paper to cover the entire side of the box.

Pro Tip: If you run out the original type of wrapping paper, use a different but complementary pattern for an eclectic and creative touch!

Step 13: Cut the paper

Using the Little ELF Gift Wrap Cutter again, cut the wrapping paper as measured. This paper will be wrapping the end sides of the box. After cutting the paper, make sure the gift is centered in the middle of the paper. Tuck the bottom of the paper under the box so there is the same amount of extra wrapping paper on either end. There will also be about two or three inches of extra paper on each side of the box.

Step 14: Crease the paper at the edge of the box

Fold the wrapping paper up the side of the box. Where the wrapping paper overlaps with the edge of the box, create a visible crease.

Step 15: Fold the paper at the crease

Fold the paper at the crease made in Step 14. It will appear to tuck in towards the box then lay flat against the box.

Step 16: Tape to the box

Tape this folded piece of paper to the corner edge of the box. Use two pieces of tape here to ensure it is secure.

Step 17: Repeat on opposite side

Rotate the gift box 180 degrees. Repeat the same technique to the opposite side of the paper. Fold the wrapping paper up the side of the box. Where the wrapping paper overlaps with the edge of the box, create a visible crease. Fold the paper at the crease and tuck it in to lay flat against the box. Tape to the edge of the box.

Step 18: Fold the end into triangle

Now, rotate the box 90 degrees so it is laying on its side. Make sure to neatly lay the paper to the edge of the before rotating the box so that it doesn't get creased. You will fold the extra paper that is at the top of the gift first. Fold the paper on the end into a triangle, similar to making the shape of a paper airplane.

Step 19: Lay the triangle to the box and tape

Lay this triangle flat down on the side of the box. Crease the edges well and use a piece of tape to secure it to the side of the box.

Step 20: Repeat on the opposite side

Repeat the same technique for the other end of that piece of paper. Fold the paper on the end into a triangle, similar to making the shape of a paper airplane. Lay this triangle flat down on the side of the box. Crease the edges well and use a piece of tape to secure it to the side of the box.

Step 21: Crease, fold, and tape first side

Rotate the gift around and repeat the entire process for the other side of the gift. Fold the wrapping paper up the side of the box. Where the wrapping paper overlaps with the edge of the box, create a visible crease. Fold the paper at the crease and tuck it in to lay flat against the box. Tape to the edge of the box.

Step 22: Crease, fold, and tape the opposite side

Rotate the box 180 degrees and repeat the same technique on the opposite end of the paper. Fold the wrapping paper up the side of the box. Where the wrapping paper overlaps with the edge of the box, create a visible crease. Fold the paper at the crease and tuck it in to lay flat against the box. Tape to the edge of the box.

Step 23: Fold into a triangle and tape first side

Rotate the box 90 degrees. Repeat the triangle folding technique on this side of the paper. Fold the paper on the end into a triangle, similar to making the shape of a paper airplane. Lay this triangle flat down on the side of the box. Crease the edges well and use a piece of tape to secure it to the side of the box.

Step 24: Fold into a triangle and tape the opposite side

Repeat the same technique for the other end of that piece of paper. Fold the paper on the end into a triangle, similar to making the shape of a paper airplane. Lay this triangle flat down on the side of the box. Crease the edges well and use a piece of tape to secure it to the side of the box.
