Whether it is due to physical limitations or simply wanting to make the unwrapping process easier and more enjoyable, this simple gift wrapping hack not only makes opening presents for people with all abilities easy, but super fun. Follow along to learn how to wrap a gift for someone who might struggle opening presents.

Step 1: Grab your supplies

Step 2: Measure the wrapping paper

Roll out the wrapping paper. Measure enough paper to cover the gift box. Place the gift on the paper and wrap the paper around the gift to ensure it is covered entirely.

Step 3: Cut the paper

After measuring it out, cut the wrapping paper. Use the Little ELF Gift Wrap Cutter to get an exact cut. Once the cutter is on the roll, press it forwards and upwards for an easy, straight, perfect cut every time.

Step 4: Trim the paper

The paper is still too wide so trim the paper again. Trim the paper making sure there is about two inches of extra wrapping paper on each side of the gift.

Step 5: Grab the ribbon

Grab a piece of curling ribbon. Curling ribbon is the key to this wrap because it is thin and strong and will tear through the paper easily. Place the ribbon on the inside of the wrapping paper. Use a piece of Little ELF Gift Wrap Tape to secure the ribbon on the inside edge of the wrapping paper. Make sure the piece of ribbon is be long enough to extend down the paper and beyond the opposite edge of the paper.

Step 6: Place the gift on the paper

Once the ribbon is secured in place, take the gift and place it in the center of the paper. Be sure that the top of the gift is facing down so it looks its best when it is given and opened.

Step 7: Wrap the first side

As we begin to wrap our gift, first fold the side that the ribbon is taped to. Take that side of the paper and fold it over the top of the gift. Secure the paper to the box using Little ELF Gift Wrap Tape.

Step 8: Cross the ribbon over

Take the piece of ribbon that extends out the other side of the gift. Fold the ribbon over the top of the gift to the other side.

Step 9: Fold second side

Fold the other side of the paper over the top of the gift.

Step 10: Tape

Secure the paper to the box using a small piece of tape on each side of the ribbon. For this hack to work perfectly, make sure to avoid taping the ribbon itself. Instead, tape the paper on either side of the ribbon.

Pro Tip: There should be some curling ribbon extending outside of the wrapping paper. Don’t worry! That is exactly what you want for this wrapping hack.

Step 11: Wrap the first end of the gift

Next, wrap the first end of the gift. Pick one end to start. Using each hand, fold the shorter ends of the paper in towards the gift. Lay both flat against the box.

Step 12: Fold the top flap down

Press the top flap down towards the box.

Step 13: Fold the bottom flap up

Lastly, pull the final flap at the bottom of the gift up to complete the end. Smooth out any creases or wrinkles with care to give it that perfect, polished look.

Step 14: Tape

Add a piece of tape to the last fold to hold the end in place. Use the Little ELF Gift Wrap Tape for a perfect, simple, and crisp finish on all holiday gifts.

Step 15: Wrap the second end

Repeat the same wrapping technique on the other end of the gift. Begin by pinching the sides of the paper in towards the gift. Fold the top flap of the paper down towards the table. Fold the remaining flap up towards you. Be sure to crease all these folds well for a polished and clean finishing look.

Step 16: Wrapping complete!

Congratulations! You have completed this awesome gift wrapping technique. There should be a string of curling ribbon hanging out of the gift wrap but, don’t worry, this is not a mistake! This will act as the tab to help the person receiving the present open it easily. The recipient will pull on that tab to tear the present open.

Learn how this technique works:

Step 1: Grab the ribbon

Before we are done, let’s see how this trick works! The ribbon that is sticking out of the wrapped gift will act as a pull tab to rip open the gift. Locate the end of the ribbon and grab it.

Step 2: Pull the ribbon

Take the end of the ribbon and pull it backwards around the center of the gift, tearing and splitting the wrapping paper perfectly down the middle.

Step 3: Slide open the paper

Then, pull both sides of the wrapping paper open and the gift will fall right out. Slide the paper off the gift for a clean, easy, and mess-free way to unwrap a gift.

That's it!

Everyone deserves the thrill of tearing open a present. So, the next time you are gifting to someone who might struggle to open their gifts, remember that this simple ribbon hack can make all the difference!
